Florida Court-Ordered Life Skills Requirements
Florida courts order life skills under various statutes including Florida Statute §784.03 (Battery), §784.011 (Assault), and §784.048 (Stalking). life skills is also commonly ordered as part of pretrial intervention programs, which allow defendants to avoid a criminal conviction by completing specified requirements.
Under Florida law, circuit and county court judges have discretion to order life skills as a special condition of probation under §948.03. Florida does not mandate a specific number of hours statewide — the duration is set by the individual judge or the terms of the plea agreement. Common durations in Florida range from 8 to 26 hours.
For domestic violence cases in Florida, the court may order a Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP) under §741.281 rather than general life skills. BIPs in Florida are 26-29 weeks and must be provided by a state-certified BIP provider. If your court order specifies a BIP, our general life skills course does not satisfy that requirement. If your order specifies life skills, our course qualifies.
Florida Statutes That Commonly Require Life Skills
§784.03 — Battery
First degree misdemeanor. Courts commonly order 8-16 hours of life skills for first-time offenders. Repeat offenses may require longer durations.
§784.011 — Assault
Second degree misdemeanor. Courts often order 4-12 hours of life skills, particularly when offered as part of a pretrial intervention program.
§784.021 — Aggravated Assault
Third degree felony. Courts may order 16-52 hours of life skills as part of probation.
§806.13 — Criminal Mischief
Courts may order life skills when property damage occurs during an anger-related incident.
§741.281 — Domestic Violence BIP
For DV convictions, courts order a 26-29 week BIP. If your order says 'life skills' rather than 'BIP,' our course qualifies.
